A low resistance reading is a strong indicator that a circuit may be grounded. In electrical systems, grounding occurs when an unintended path allows electrical current to flow to the ground. When you measure resistance in a circuit and find a low resistance value, it suggests that there is a pathway for current that should not exist under normal operating conditions. This could mean that there is a short circuit or a fault where the wiring is in contact with the ground or another conductive surface.

When testing for grounding issues, tools typically measure resistance in ohms. A very low resistance reading, especially when compared to the expected values for a properly functioning circuit, usually prompts further investigation into the integrity of the circuit and the components involved. High current output can sometimes be a result of a short; however, it does not directly indicate grounding. Similarly, a sudden drop in performance or an audible alarm may signal issues but do not specifically point to grounding conditions without further context or testing.
